EQi vs. IQ
I often ask clients whom they admire as a role model. The answers are all different, but when I ask the follow-up question of why – one thing is always the same. People like people because of soft skills. They comment on someone’s energy or charisma. They chat about their empathy or motivating way of speaking.
Rarely do I hear, “I love that he’s really good at Excel.”
A widespread misconception is that people's intellectual intelligence determines their leadership potential. In fact, it is emotional intelligence, not intellectual intelligence that is the mark of great leaders.
Developing one's emotional intelligence is the key to unleashing the potential of business leaders. How can you make this work for you?
Develop self-awareness of your emotional intelligence.
Identify opportunities to build on your strengths and surround yourself with a team that can help you face the areas that aren't your strengths.
Lead people with authenticity, caring for their wellbeing and development and believing in their potential to achieve great things.
It’s not about being the smartest person in the room; it’s about being the most aware. People need the freedom to be responsible, because they will come to value it more.
If you want to work on your EQi, let’s get on the phone.
